Spurgeon on Resting in the Promises of God is the fourth volume in the Spurgeon Speaks Series by Moody Publishers. In this series, Jason K Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Spurgeon College, compiled several of Spurgeon’s best sermons on various topics.
The previous volumes featured sermons on the priority of prayer, the power of Scripture, and persevering through trials. In this one, Allen presents us with some of Spurgeon’s best sermons on believing and trusting God’s promises.
One quality that set Spurgeon apart was his unshakeable trust in God for everything. He even once said, “trust in God alone and lean not on the reeds of human help.” Spurgeon did not just preach God’s Word; he believed it and built his life on it. In volume 4 of the Spurgeon Speaks series, Allen invites us to join the prince of preachers in cherishing God’s precious promises and resting in them.
The book features eight sermons: The Rainbow, A Refreshing Promise, Obtaining Promises, Rest, Rest, Only Trust Him! Only Trust Him!, Sweet Peace for Tried Believers, A Cure for Care, and The Blessing of Full Assurance.
As with the other volumes of this series, Spurgeon on Resting in the Promises of God is delightful and excellent! It is thoroughly biblical, deeply encouraging, and features beautiful insights into God’s Word. I enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.
Moody Publishers graciously gave me a copy, and this is my honest review.
