Shares and Finds ~ August 2020

Once a month, I share a list of Christian resources such as articles, blog posts, sermons, videos, etc. that I found exciting and edifying. I do this to provide you with more content that will inspire your faith and help you grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. And also to motivate me to discover and learn new things from others.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publshes salvation, who says to Zion,”Your God reigns.”

Isaiah 52:7

Articles

Respectable Sins of the Reformed World– Tim Challies

This article was spot on and convicting! “Each of us is a saint, yet each of us is still a sinner. As such, we remain attracted to certain sins and prone even to dress them up in respectable garb. It is a good and necessary discipline, then, to examine ourselves to consider not only the sins we consider ugliest, but also the ones we consider most beautiful.”

You are Not as Dumb as You Think: Five Reasons to Put Down that Devotional and Pick Up the Actual Bible – Michelle Lesley

I appreciate the way Michelle Lesley encourages women to study God’s Word directly. “Ladies, you are not dumb. God created you smart enough to understand the Bible, and He created the Bible to be understandable. He loves you and wants you to read, embrace, and apply His word to your life. So don’t be afraid to throw that Daily Bread out the Open Windows of your Upper Room and read a chapter out of your Bible instead.”

On a Path I Never Would Have Chosen – The Corner Shelf

I was really encouraged by Maddie’s reflections on walking paths we never would have chosen. “You see, I can take comfort even on the path I never would’ve chosen, because it is His rod and His staff I see before me. They are reminders that I do not walk this path for its ease, or it’s comfort, but for the simple fact that God led me to it, and His way is perfect.”

A Shortcut to Happiness: Why Accomplishment Your Goals Won’t Satisfy – Redeeming Productivity

“Contentment is a shortcut to happiness. It’s a mindset rooted in the truth that allows you to stop chasing after satisfaction in fleeting things and instead to rest contentedly in what the eternal Lord has already given you, and in His promises of things to come. To try and seek happiness apart from Christ is a fool’s errand.”

Sermons

Dear Christian Show Them Christ – Paul Washer

The Curse Motif of the Atonement – R.C Sproul

It Will Cost You Everything – Steven Lawson

We Must Obey God Rather Than Men- John MacArthur

Music

EvenSong – The Gettys

The Getty’s just released an album, Evensong: A collection of Hymns and Lullabies at the Close of Day. It was “born out of the thoughts, songs, and prayers the Gettys use to close each day with their own family.”
